The artwork consisted of 7,500 Gates that covered 23 miles (37 kilometers) of pathways in Central Park. Each Gate was 16 feet (4.87 meters) tall; the width of the Gates varied from 5 feet 6 inches to 18 feet (1.68 to 5.48 meters), depending on the width of the walkway. Orange fabric panels hung from the top part of the Gates, and extended down approximately 7 feet (2.13 meters) above the ground (adults could just touch them when walking under them). The Gates could be seen from satellites in space! After being displayed, the gates were removed and the materials were recycled.
