Uniramians are the largest subgroup of the arthropods. They are invertebrate animals that have an exoskeleton, a segmented body, a pair of antennae, and many jointed legs. Their appendages (like legs and antennae) are uniramous (having only one branch). The subphylum Uniramia includes:

• Insects - butterflies, beetles, grasshoppers, etc., which have a 3-part body and 6 legs
• Myriapods - millipedes, centipedes, and their relatives, which have a 2-part body and 18 (or more) legs

Where they live: Most Uniramians are terrestrial (they live on land), but some live in the water for part of their life cycle (for example, mosquitos lay their eggs in water, and the larvae are aquatic). Uniramians are very rarely found in the oceans.
