Starling in the Snow

Starling in the Snow

A European starling, flying, as snow comes down.

Sixty European starlings were released in Central Park, in Manhattan, in 1890. These starlings and their descendants spread throughout North America. This is said to have been part of a project to introduce to North America all the bird species mentioned in the plays of William Shakespeare!

Scientific name: Sturnus vulgaris
