George Walker Bush (July 6, 1946 - ) became the 43rd President of the United States of America on January 20, 2001 and was re-elected in 2004 for a second term; his Vice-President was Richard Cheney. Bush and Cheney are Republicans.

George W. Bush was born in New Haven, Connecticut, but grew up in Texas.

Bush earned a bachelor's degree from Yale University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Business School. After graduation, he joined the Texas Air National Guard and was an F-102 pilot. Before entering politics, he had a career in the oil and gas business.

Bush was the governor of Texas from Jan. 17, 1995 until Dec. 21, 2000. In 1977, Bush married Laura Welch (1946- ), a former teacher and librarian who grew up in Midland, Texas. The couple have fraternal twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna, who were born in 1981.
