NAME: Meaning - Eustreptospondylus means "well-curved vertebrae" or "well-reversed vertebrae"
Pronounced - yoo-STREP-to-SPON-di-lus

DIET: Carnivore (meat-eater)
SIZE: Length - Roughly 23-30 ft (7-9 m) long
Height - 10-12 ft (3-3.7 m) tall at the hips
Weight - 200 kg to 250 kg (figures are for a sub-adult specimen)
WHEN IT LIVED: Jurassic period, about 163 million years ago
WHERE IT LIVED: Fossils have been found in England, Europe.
FOSSILS: A single, incomplete fossil of a sub-adult has been found.
CLASSIFICATION:
  • Kingdom Animalia (animals)
  • Phylum Chordata (having a hollow nerve chord ending in a brain)
  • Class Archosauria (diapsids with socket-set teeth, etc.)
  • Order Saurischia - lizard-hipped dinosaurs
  • Suborder Theropoda - bipedal carnivores
  • Tetanura - advanced theropods with three fingers
  • Genus Eustreptospondylus
  • Species E. oxoniensis (type species named by A. Walker, 1964)
