Brass Instruments:

brass instruments The French horn, trumpet, trombone, and tuba are brass musical instruments.

trombone The trombone is a long, brass, musical instrument.

trumpet Your lips vibrate when you play a trumpet. Print out a simple trumpet coloring page or label the parts of a trumpet.

tuba The tuba is a large, brass, musical instrument.

Percussion Instruments:

percussion instruments Percussion instruments are musical instruments that are played by banging or shaking, like drums or maracas.

bell A bell makes a beautiful sound when you ring it.

cymbals Cymbals are musical instruments. You bang or hit these percussion instruments together to make a sound. Print out a simple cymbals coloring page or label the cymbals and other percussion instruments.

drum Drums are very noisy musical instruments. Print out a simple drum coloring page or label the drum and other percussion instruments.

gong A gong makes a loud noise when you bang on it.

kettledrum The kettledrum is a large drum that makes a deep sound. A set of kettledrums is called a timpani.

maracas Maracas are a musical instrument that are made from hollow gourds. Dried seeds or pebbles inside the gourds make noise when the maracas are shaken. Print out a simple maracas coloring page or label the maracas and other percussion instruments.

piano A piano is a musical instrument with 88 keys. When you press a key, it causes a wooden hammer to strike a string, making a sound.

rainstick A rainstick is a ceremonial musical instrument used to invoke the rain spirits. In Chile, rainsticks are traditionally made from dead cactus tubes with hundreds of cactus spines hammered into the tube. Tiny lava pebbles cascade gently through the tube, sounding much like rain.

rattle A rattle makes noise when you shake it.

String Instruments:

string instrument String instruments are musical instruments that are played by plucking, strumming, picking, or bowing the strings. The guitar, violin, viola, cello, double bass, ukulele, lute, harp, and banjo are stringed instrument.

banjo The banjo is a stringed musical instrument.

Bow The bow is used to play many string instruments, including the violin, viola, cello, and double bass.

cello A cello is a large string instrument.

double bass A double bass is a very large string instrument.

electric guitar The electric guitar is an electronically-enhanced stringed instrument.

fiddle A fiddle is another word for violin. It is a stringed musical instrument.

harp A harp is a musical instrument with many strings. Print out a simple harp coloring page or label the parts of a harp.

ukulele A ukulele is a small instrument with four strings.

viola The viola is a stringed instrument that is slightly larger than the violin (and deeper in tone than the violin).

zither A zither is a small, stringed, musical instrument.

Woodwind Instruments:

Woodwind instrument Woodwind instruments are wind instruments whose sound is produced by the vibration of reed(s) in the mouthpiece. The bassoon, clarinet, English horn, flute, oboe, piccolo, and saxophone are examples of woodwinds.

bassoon The bassoon is a large woodwind instrument with a double reed. It can play very low notes

clarinet The clarinet is a woodwind instrument with a single reed.

English horn An English horn is a woodwind instrument with a double reed.

flute The flute is a woodwind instrument.

oboe The oboe is a woodwind instrument with a double reed.

piccolo The piccolo is small, high-pitched woodwind instrument.

recorder A recorder is a small wind instrument. Print out a simple recorder coloring page or label the parts of a recorder.

saxophone The saxophone is a large woodwind instrument. It was invented by Adolph Sax around 1840.

Miscellaneous Instruments:

harmonica A harmonica is a small, bar-shaped musical instrument; you play it by blowing through the holes.

kazoo You have to hum into a kazoo to make music.

keyboard A keyboard is an electronic instrument played by pressing on the keys.

Musical Instrument Activities:
