Anatomy: Sauropelta was about 19 feet (6 m) long. It was covered with bony, armored plates and had sharp spikes running along its neck and shoulders. It had a long, stiff tail, a short neck, and short legs. Sauropelta did not have a tail club.
Diet: Sauropelta was an herbivore, a plant eater. It ate low-lying plants, perhaps eating horsetail, ferns, and club mosses.
Fossils: Sauropelta was discovered and named by paleontologists John Ostrom and Grant E. Meyer in 1970. Sauropelta fossils have been found in Montana and Wyoming, USA.
