The Great Apes include chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas, and orangutans. These primates are closely related to humans. Because of loss of habitat, all but humans are threatened by extinction.

Anatomy: Like all apes, the great apes have no tail. They are covered with fur on most of their body (except their face, fingers, palms, armpits, and bottoms of the feet). These great apes have very long arms (the arms are longer than the legs).

Diet: The great apes are mostly herbivores (plant-eaters). Occasionally, they eat insects or small animals.
