The Test of Time A Novel by I. MacPenn |
Me again. Do you think dinosaurs were
warm-blooded? Why?
from Katie V., age 14, Tabernacle, NJ, U.S.A.; July 27, 2001
TOM: All the living dinosaurs (aka, the birds) are warm-blooded. All dinosaurs show evidence of a metabolism above that of typical modern
cold-blooded creatures (from their growth rates, functional anatomy, etc.). However, "cold-blooded" and "warm-blooded" are two ends of a spectrum of possibilities. It is very likely that some Mesozoic dinosaurs were more warm-blooded than others.
