Spinosaurus was not really as mean
as he was made out in Jurassic Park III was he?
from Damean, age ?, ?, ?, ?; July 5, 2001
TOM: Movies often make meat-eating animals seem "mean". In fact, although wild meat-eaters are of course dangerous, few animals are actually cruel. When they attack something they are doing it because they need to eat, or feel threatened, or are defending themselves or their babies. Plant-eating animals will also attack if they feel threatened or are defending themselves and their babies. (In fact, this is why you should never get too close to any wild animal, whether it is a meat-eater or a plant-eater).
Although movies and TV shows make meat-eaters seem especially "mean" and plant-eaters seem "nice", that isn't always the case. After all, some of our favorite pets (cats and dogs) are meat-eaters, while some plant-eaters (like bulls and rhinos) can be very dangerous.
