Arno - a river in northern Italy that flows west to the Mediterranean Sea. Florence is on the Arno. Danube - a large river that flows west to east, through Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania, emptying into the Black Sea. Vienna, Budapest, and Belgrade are on the Danube. The Danube is the second-longest river in Europe. Don - a Russian river that flows into the Black Sea; it is east of the Dnieper and west of part of the Volga. Dnieper - (also called the Dnipro) a river that flows from Russia through Belarus into Ukraine. The Dnieper/Dnipro is the third-longest river in Europe. Kyiv is on the Dnieper. Dniester - a river that flows from Ukraine through Moldova and back to Ukraine into the Black Sea. Ebro - a river in northeastern Spain that flows to the Mediterranean Sea. Elbe - a river the flows through the Czech Republic and Germany, emptying into the North Sea. Hamburg, Dresden and are on the Elbe. The Elbe is east of the Rhine. Forth - a river in Scotland that flows east to the North Sea. Indals - a Swedish river that flows east into the Gulf of Botnia (the body of water between Sweden and Finland). Klar - a river that flows from Norway through Sweden into the North Sea. Loire - a river in central France (south of the Seine) that flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The Loire is is the longest river in France. Nantes is on the Loire. Niemen - (also spelled Nemen, Memel, and Nieman) a river that flows through Belarus and Lithuania, emptying into the Baltic Sea. North Dvina - (also spelled N. Dwina) a Russian river that flows to the northwest, emptying into the White Sea. Oder - a river that starts in the Czech Republic, flows through Poland, and then along the German-Polish border, emptying into the Baltic Sea. Po - a river in northern Italy that flows east to the Mediterrannean Sea. Rhine - a river that flows from Switzerland through Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, France, and the Netherlands, emptying into the North Sea. Bonn is on the Rhine. Rhone - a river in southeastern France that flows into the Mediterranean Sea. Lyon is on the Rhone. Seine - a river in northern France (north of the Loire) the flows west into the Atlantic Ocean; Paris is located on the Seine. Shannon - a river in western Ireland that flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Tagus - a river in that flows from Spain through Portugal to the Atlantic Ocean. Lisbon is on the Tagus. Thames - a river in southeast England; London is located on the Thames. Tiber - a river in west-central Italy that flows south to the Mediterranean Sea. Rome is on the Tiber. Trent - a river in England that flows northeast to the Atlantic Ocean. The Trent is north of the Thames. Vardar - a river in Macedonia and Greece that flows into the Aegean Sea. Vistula - a river the flows through Poland, emptying into the Baltic Sea; Warsaw is on the Vistula. The Vistula is east of the Oder. Volga - a Russian river that is the longest river in Europe; it flows into the Caspian Sea. Samara and Volgograd are on the Volga. West Dvina - (also spelled W. Dwina) a river the flows through Belarus and Latvia, emptying into the Baltic Sea. Riga is on the W. Dvina. |
