Peter Paul Rubens (June 28, 1577- May 30, 1640) was a major Flemish baroque painter.
Drawn between 1625 and 1627, Rubens’ Son Nicolas With A Red Cap is a lovely portrait of the artist’s son. Made with colored chalk (using the “trois crayons” three-color drawing technique he developed), this image of a young child is midway between a sketch and a painting, having a pleasing look of both. Although not shown fully here, the hat and clothing were both originally red.
