Printing Our Pages

If you are on one of our new pages (the new site has a blue background behind the logo and the yellow navigation bar below it), click the “print page” link in the upper right corner. A window should pop up prompting you to pick a printer and choose any other settings for printing (this should be the same window you see when printing anything else on your computer). Proceed to print as you usually would.

If you are on an older page (you may see a yellow bar at the top with various information about your login and favorites, for example), then look for a link saying “print directly” or “view before printing”. If you choose print directly, it should pull up the normal printing dialog box, just as if you printed in any other application. If you choose to view before printing, you will be shown the page as it would appear printed, and to actually print it you will need to either choose print using your browsers file menu (or a similar menu), or if you are on a Mac, hit command-P to print, or if you are on a Windows computer hit control-P to print.

What To Do If Your Printer Won’t Print

You should be able to print anything that can see on your computer screen. Usually, when a printer won’t print regular web pages (or if it prints text but not the images on a page), the computer is running short of memory – this problem is usually fixed by re-starting the computer.

What To Do If Each Printout Has The Date And URL On It

This is a browser setting that you can change to put in or remove the date, title, URL, and page number from the top and/or bottom of each printed page.

To change this setting, go to the FILE menu, and choose PAGE SETUP. At this point, either delete what’s in the headers and footers or choose NONE for the contents of the headers and footers (the exact method depends on which browser you’re using).

What To Do If You Can’t Print PDF Files

In order to print (or even see) a PDF file, you have to have a recent version of Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. You can download the most recent version of Acrobat Reader at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html on Adobe’s website (it is free).

What To Do If You Get An “Invalid Colorspace” Error When Using A PDF File

The error message “Invalid Colorspace” almost always means that you have an older version of Acrobat Reader. You can download the most recent version at: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html on Adobe’s website (it is free).

How To Get The Best Printouts From A Web Page - Scaling Images And Font Sizes

Printing regular web pages is quite flexible. To fit your needs, you can change the size of the text (fonts) and even the size of some of the pictures (black-and-white images can be scaled larger).

To print a page, first, go to the members version of the page you want to print, and then click on the link to go to the printable version of the page (when you are on the member’s site, there should be a link at the top where you can click for a printable version of the page).

On the members printable page, you can choose to have black-and-white images scaled larger. To get the bigger version, click on the link on the top right of the page (this option only shows up on pages with a large black-and-white image).

Using a browser that has a “PRINT PREVIEW” option is highly recommended (this option is usually located inder the FILE menu at the top of your browser window). If your browser is old and does not have “PRINT PREVIEW,” printing is a lot more difficult (and more time consuming). Upgrading your browser is well worth the time involved (and upgrading is usually free).

Checking The Layout Of Your Page(s) Before You Print

After you see the printable version of your page on the screen, choose “PRINT PREVIEW” from the FILE menu. You will see a small version of your printout and can now change the font size by simply clicking on a button. Adjust the font size until the layout is what you wanted. For example, you may want to reduce your font size to fit the printout on one page.

What To Do If The Grays Are Too Faint On Your Printout

If gray parts of an image do not appear on your printouts, check that your printer is set to the best printing setting. If you are printing in draft mode or other ink-saving modes, you will not print all of the details in the image.
